Mookai recently created the poster series and campaign visuals for the upcoming 2010 – 2011 Segal Centre theatre season. The new line up features plays that focus on local appeal (La Sagouine and Lies My Father Told Me) and feature films (Blithe Spirt and A View from the Bridge). Mookai's approach drew inspiration from vintage cinema art. The oversized typographic treatment of the titles and large simplistic imagery resulted in a memorable concept.
The Segal Centre of Montreal hosted the first ever International Yiddish Theatre Festival (sponsored by the Ville de Montréal). For the first time ever, Yiddish theatres from all over the world participated in a week-long festival, which included music, theatre, symposiums, lectures and other events.
Mookai created the image for the festival including the identity, branding and campaign materials. To capture this joyful coming together of nations, a bold and colourful typographic approach was adopted. Using type as image, the names of the eight participating countries became a repeating pattern element and were splashed across billboards, brochures, banners and advertisements.
